When Tara Langdale-Schmidt told her doctor that she was experiencing pain during intercourse, he said, “You just need to drink some wine and relax.” After that didn’t work, he suggested anti-depressants and ultimately surgery, saying, “I can just cut out the part that hurts.”

At one point her doctor even tried treating her pain with lidocaine injections. “Well, lidocaine lasts about what, 30 minutes to an hour? Are you supposed to go home after being poked eight times and have sex? Like, that just doesn’t work,” Tara said.
